100 Days

Today is day 100 of this pregnancy.

Hard to imagine, isn't it? It certainly is for me! I think we are still in shock that we have made it this far. We remain very thankful for each new day!

We had our first OB appointment today, and overall it went pretty well. The baby is doing fine; we were just disappointed that we got there for a 1:00 ultrasound and after waiting about 45 minutes, we found out that they had decided that we didn't "need" to have an ultrasound since we'd had one just a few weeks ago. It was pretty hard for me to get over and I had to pull myself together in a hurry, but we were eager to move forward with meeting our new doctor. I didn't figure it would do me much good to dig in my heels and demand that they give me an ultrasound! I guess that wouldn't have made a good first impression. :)

We spent a good while going over a bunch of information with the nurse before my exam began. We had a lot of ground to cover from the past 14 weeks, especially with my history. (Every single person who came into contact with my file made a comment about how large it was. Trust me, I know!) Pretty soon it was finally time to meet Dr R. We like her very much! She listened to all of our concerns and really helped to put us at ease. She did a full exam today and said that everything is looking really good. We did listen to the baby's heartbeat with the doppler, which is always comforting to hear. (She had to locate it twice because the baby was wiggly!) The doctor had lots of questions for us and said she would spend some time looking more carefully at our history. I felt good about this, and when we were checking out I heard the nurse tell someone to leave it out for Dr R to review. I swear it looks like a large novel!

After we left the doctor's office we had to drive down the road to go get some lab work done. The office has a lab, so I'm not sure why we had to get it done elsewhere. She ordered a full prenatal panel, plus thyroid and something else I can't remember, and a urine test (my second one of the day). We're certainly glad they are checking everything out.

Now, the other slightly disappointing thing is that we will have to wait 7 more weeks for another ultrasound. I know that it will be okay, but this will be very, very hard for me. I will see the doctor again in 4 weeks and I know we'll hear the heartbeat again then. That appointment is on April 26 (the day after my sister's birthday!), and our BIG appointment -- the "anatomy ultrasound" is scheduled for May 17! In the meantime, though, we are seriously considering buying our own doppler to help us get through the long wait. Any advice or suggestions?

We have now officially gone public with the announcement and the support has been great. I think it still feels funny for us to share the news so openly. My shy husband is not so sure about getting so much attention at work tomorrow, but I think it will be sweet! I have to say, it still doesn't quite seem real even now. Is this really happening?

I just want to remind you how thankful I am to share this journey with all of you. You have been my support system, my therapy, my prayer partners, and my dear friends for the last couple of years and I'm forever grateful.

I'm still praying for you, friends, especially for those of you who are waiting.

Woo Hoo 100 days! That is awesome! I'm glad you had a good appointment. I'm sure things will continue to go in the right direction. If I were you I would be out buying a dopler too. I have no idea on brands. Sorry!

Yay oh yay! I am sorry about no ultrasound. I remember this time (between being "released" to my OB and the anatomy scan) was the hardest part of my pregnancy. I was convinced DAILY that the baby had died. Once I had the anatomy scan and saw that everything was "normal" and started feeling movement shortly after, things got a lot easier. I hope the same for you.

I am so happy that things are going so well for you! I don't know exactly how far along you are, but at 15 or 16 weeks you can go and have an elective ultrasound done. That is what we did to pass the time, and we got to see the gender as well! They won't tell you any diagnostic information, so it was so relaxing for us not to worry about that, and such a special treat to see her in 4D. We even had it recorded so that I can watch the DVD anytime that I want.

I rented a doppler from babybeats. I am so happy that I did, as it offers me daily reassurance that the baby is still alive. I had initially decided not to, but then I gave in, and I am so happy that I did. Now I use it once (or twice...) a day for only 5-10 seconds, and it makes me so relaxed.

I am thrilled that everything is going so well for you guys. Thank you God!!!

So glad it went well & sad they didn't do an u/s for you! I'm with you I'd be getting a Doppler, my friend had one & already told me when I'm ever pg again I can totally borrow it (fellow IF friend)!! So, do it!! Glad you liked your OB & she's being thorough, that is comforting!! 100 days, what a blessing!! Praying you through to delivering your full term, healthy baby ____?!?!!! exciting!!!

Glad to hear this update. One suggestion: are there any pregnancy resource centers in your area? Some offer free ultrasounds to women facing unplanned pregnancies. I know yours is not unplanned but occasionally, they need models so that their sonographers can maintain their skills. Just a thought.

Happy 100! I saw your facebook status, but figured I wouldn't get lost in the 40+ comments! So glad that your appt. went well and that you like your new doctor. Sounds like she will be very thorough. I don't know much about dopplers except that we were given one of those hear the heartbeat things with the mic, and it couldn't pick up any thing until much later in the pregnancy. It just wasn't sensitive enough. So definitely read some reviews before you buy! Congratulations on spreading the news!!

That is a long wait between ultrasounds and because of our shared history, I totally get why it would freak you out. Perhaps buyinig your own doppler is a good idea, at least that way it can offer you reassurance.

Congratulations on 100 days! I'm sorry you have to wait so long for an ultrasound...I didn't know you could get your own doppler, that sounds like a great idea! Can't wait to find out the baby's sex (if you're sharing that info, that is!)

Congratulations on a huge milestone! I'm glad you like the OB. Also, I think you can rent dopplers if you don't want to buy one.

way to goo...100 days!! I think if you can rent a doppler somewhere that will help with the anxiety of waiting for the next appointment.

Congratulations on a 100 days! I would consider doing an elective 3D/4D ultrasound personally. We were leary of a doppler because we didn't want to be freaked out if we couldn't hear anything because of user error or doppler insensitivity. Just something to consider-- sounds like others here with actual experience using one recommend it.

I am SO relieved to hear you like Dr. R! I would have cried if I expected an u/s and didn't get one. That is just WRONG!!!! Renting a doppler is pretty cheap. You can go online and pay 25 dollars a month. I did it with one of my pregnancies and it was so reassuring to know that the baby's heart was beating away. Glad to hear everything went well.

I'm soooo happy for you and so glad things are going well.

I feel for you and the large chart, although not necessarily from me. :) Mark has 8 thick volumes at our clinic and it's always sad to me to see that. But, I guess it's just part of it.

Congrats!! We did buy a doppler as well. I know you can rent one a more expensive one as well.

I rented a doppler (BabyBeat) for both of my pregnancies. It was a sanity-saver each time. I would definitely go for it just for the peace of mind.

I'm so glad that you like your new doctor. It sounds like she is taking your history seriously and that should be a comfort to you. It is so hard to wait for that next ultrasound! Still praying!!!

WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Yaaay for the 100 day milestone!!! Well I learned something new...had no idea you could buy or rent a doppler. But these days, you can do that with just about anything! Congrats to you and Chuck. I know y'all are proud parents! :)

congratulations on making it to the 2nd trimester! I hope you can *try* to relax just a bit now, so that you can enjoy the miracle of life growing inside of you. I know you can't go back to the pre-miscarriages Stacey, but I pray that God would grant you such incredible peace that you will not be consumed by worry and anxiety. I will also pray you'll start to feel the baby move early so that will ease your fears. Bring your phone and record the heartbeat at your next appt if you can. We did that and I still listen to that message!

Praising God for that sweet little life he is knitting together.

Congratulations, sounds like it is all going great! I know it must be so hard to wait for 7 more weeks but thing of. it this way: you would prefer the doctor to say "hey things are looking so good we dont need to recheck you for 7 weeks" than to hear "uh oh we better check you again really soon". Obviously the long wait means there is nothing of concern happening so well done!!! So pleased for you!!!

Hey, I left you a virtual Easter BAsket on my blog. Please check it out.

Yay!! I'm so glad everything is going well (besides no ultrasound :( ). I know we had mixed feelings about anouncing this pregnancy too but figure this way the more people that know about it, the more that can pray for us. I can't remember exactly when I rented the dopplar we've got but I'm glad I did- I rarely use it because this baby has moved so much but it has truly been a sanity saver when I've needed it! I went for renting one though because I heard the ones you can get at the stores aren't always reliable. A few people have already mentioned baby beats and that's where we got ours too- plus it has the added bonus of being able to hook up to the computer and record the sound bytes as well so we've got a cd burned of her heartbeat :). I hope the next (& 7) weeks fly by!!
